FINAL EARTHING UP OF POTATOES
Earthing up potatoes is normally a two part process. The first part was described in the diary entry for the second week of the previous month.
This week add more compost so that the container is almost but not quite filled to the brim. Click here to go to our main article on earthing up potatoes in containers.

START TO HARVEST SUMMER RADISHES
Don’t be afraid to harvest radishes when they are slightly small, these have the best flavour. It’s also possible to sow more radish seeds to replace the young plants just harvested. Simply pull the radishes up gently by their foliage.
Click here for our main radish article which explains in detail how to harvest radish.THIN LETTUCE SEEDLINGS
Lettuces should be thinned to about 15cm / 6in apart if your are growing smaller varieties in your raised bed as we previously suggested. At this stage of the year though, the thinned lettuce should be large enough to use as a small salad. Those small thinned lettuce make some of the sweetest you will ever taste.SOW MAINCROP CARROT SEEDS
Sowing maincrop carrots now will give you a crop in September which will store far better than early varieties of carrots. Our main carrot article, which can be found here, explains how to sow carrots in containers and raised beds.THIN CARROT SEEDLINGS
Continue to thin your early carrot seedlings as described
