LOSETTO TOMATO VARIETY
Losetto stands out from the vast majority of tomato varieties because it is claimed to have resistance to late tomato blight. From comments and reports over the last few years it does seem to be the truth. No tomato plant is totally resistant to blight but so far Losetto seems to very near to that. See also
Crimson Crush which has the best blight resistance of all. This variety is low maintenance because it requires only very minimal pruning.
BUSH OR CORDON?
Losetto is a bush type (determinate) of tomato which was introduced to the market by T & M in 2011. Basically it can be left to its own devices to grow with only minimal pruning to encourage airflow into the middle of the plant.
APPEARANCE AND TASTE OF LOSETTO TOMATOES
The cherry tomatoes are one-bite-sized at about 14g / half an ounce each. Unusually for bush type tomato the cropping period is long and can easily span two months or more. This is a mid-season variety. The
Brix rating (sweetness) for this variety is 7 which is similar to that of the ever popular Gardeners Delight. Sweetness and acidity are well balanced.
The plants are very small growing to a typical height of 45cm / 18in. They are best grown in a hanging basket or container although they can be planted in open ground on a bed of straw to keep the fruits clear of the ground.
