This is a summary of all the key dates you need to know for growing a full standard fuchsia in the UK. CALENDAR FOR GROWING FULL STANDARD FUCHSIAS

The third week of April
 
Take cuttings if you have a mother plant.
See next entry for buying plug plants.
 
The first week of May
 
Buy plug plants
 
Up to last week of October
 
Grow on outside as a standard
 
Last week of October to
first week of March

 
Grow protected - min. 10°C / 50°F
 
Last week of October
 
Stop nitrogen feed, apply Blood Fish and Bone
late December and late February. Water sparingly.
 
Last week of November
 
Pinch out growing tip leaving 3 side shoots,
height of fuchsia will be about 105cm / 42in
 
Late February onwards
 
Whenever temperature allows place plants outside
 
First week of April
 
Resume nitrogen feed, start to water more often
 
Second week of June
 
Start to feed with tomato plant fertiliser
