AL KO MH 350

AL-KO MH 350-4 PETROL TILLER

By David Marks; article fully updated September 2017.
The AL-KO MH 350-4 petrol tiller is not one which springs to mind when looking for a budget garden tiller but it has several good points. Firstly, the engine is a Briggs and Stratton and they have been producing engines for many years. They are extremely dependable, getting spare parts is simplicity itself and they are very easily maintained. The 125cc four stroke engine produces a very creditable 2.3bhp, one of the largest for the price.

The handlebars are set at a comfortable angle and, importantly, are adjustable to your height making tilling easier and more comfortable. The weight of the tiller is 26kg / 58lbs which is heavier than most tillers at the economy end of the market. This makes it more difficult to load it in and out of a car but on the plus side the machine is more stable in use.

That extra weight (combined with the high engine power) make it sit better on the ground surface when being used. It's still not capable of tilling compacted soil but it certainly makes easy work of even clay. The tilling width is wider than average at 35cm and the three way adjustable tilling depth goes down as far as 26cm / 10in.

WHERE TO BUY AN AL-KO MH 350 TILLER

The recommended retail price is £459 and discounts are very difficult to find. The company website occasionally offers a discount. The cheapest we could find it was at Mow Direct for £419.

A buying strategy which often works if you want to buy from your local dealer is to research the lowest price online and then ask if your local supplier will match that. Often they will. To find your local AL-KO dealer click here.
